We brush and floss our teeth every day. Actually many of us didn’t pay much attention to our dental health until the dental problems present or even get worse. We do it perfunctorily as a routine task. Brushing up and down for few minutes and it’s done. While some people are doing too much, which does more harm than good. Here are top five dental care mistakes people are prone to make. Read on and see if you are making any mistakes I’m about to mention.
Some people don’t replace their toothbrush regularly. A worn-out toothbrush will harbor many bacteria that are harmful to our dental health. It is suggested that we change our toothbrush every three months. Of course when to change your toothbrush eventually depends on the bristle. If the bristle is out of shape less than three months, you still have to replace it. If you are using a electric toothbrush, you can buy a replacement electric toothbrush in advance.
Many people believe the harder they brush their teeth, the better they can whiten their teeth. Indeed, if you brush your teeth too hard, it will result in receding gums and increase teeth sensitivity. Some of us always brush our teeth side by side, which cannot efficiently clean the plague. You need to brush your teeth in small circles using a toothbrush with a soft bristle.
Flossing can help get rid of food particles stuck in our teeth without lots of difficulties. However, it is estimated that, in America, only about 40 percent of people floss at least once each day. What’s worse, about 20 percent of people don’t floss. Using an automatic toothbrush can help remove the plague while flossing can thoroughly clean between the teeth.
Even though people floss every day, they don’t necessarily know how to floss properly. You should gently work the floss in between you teeth. When the floss reaches the gum line, floss your teeth in a C-shape. Gently floss your teeth up and down and floss every tooth.
Avoid eating too much candies, acidic or sugared drinks and so called sugar-free gums. Eating excessive food like these will expose your teeth to plague bacteria. The PH level of your teeth will be affected by junky food and it takes at least 20 minutes to get back to normal. Don’t forget to rinse your mouth with water after eating such food.
Some people brush their teeth immediately after a meal. If you’ve eaten something acidic, your enamel will be weakened by the food acid temporarily. Brushing may aggravate the situation. So you should wait at least 30 minutes.
