Basically, rainbow eucalyptus is an evergreen tree that hails from the Island of Mindanao in Philippine. This tree has become quite popular due to its ever-changing, multicolored bark. If it is grown under the ideal location – plenty of water, full sun and well-drained water – it can grow to become a 200 feet tall tree. This tree is mostly started from cuttings, but the truth is, starting it from it seeds can be an interesting experience. Let’s take a look on how you can grow these tree from its seeds.
The first step will be to prepare the container you plan to sow the seed in. by cleaning and disinfecting this container ensures that you eliminate any bacteria that could otherwise affect the growth of the plant. To disinfect it, all you need to do is to soak the container for 10 minutes in a solution of water and household bleach. Then afterwards, clean the container thoroughly and rinse it with clean water. Then, fill the container, up-to three quarter inches from the top with a moistened mix that could support the growth of seeds.
Step two is where, now, you sow the seeds. You don’t put them too deep in the mix, just 1/16 inch layer of the mix is sufficient. Ensure that the soil remains moist throughout, until the seed germinates. The best way to ensure this is so is by using a spray bottle as it would ensure that the seeds are not washed away. Remember that the seeds requires a 100 percent humidity, so, may be cover the container with a plastic wrap – it would raise the humidity level.
Step three is germination. For this to happen, you need to maintain a temperature of about 68 to 72 degrees. If you do this, you can be sure that the seeds will germinate with five to 20 days. So, after the seeds germinates, place the container in a sunny window. Also, to ensure the seeds growing doesn’t become weak, expose them to a temperature of around 55 to 60 degrees.
The eucalyptus seedlings develops a set of leaves, known as cotyledon leaves. Now, once the second set of leaves develops, plant them in individual containers. Continue ensuring that the soil is moist and may be apply some fertilizer. After around three months, if you do everything right, the plant will be about 10 inches tall, take them outside in a sunny area
