A pregnant Gigi Hadid and her on-again off-again lover Zayn Malik are expecting a child together, and it is a girl. These news came after a report emerged that Gigi is 20 weeks into her pregnancy. There was speculation that the model’s birthday celebration doubled as a gender reveal party. Gigi, 25, and Malik, 27, have been quarantining together with Bella, Gigi sister, and her mom, Yolanda Hadid in their family farm in Pennsylvania.
Now, Gigi, just like so many women out there who are pregnant, are panicking when they see how Coronavirus is ravaging the world. Of course, the health agencies has assured us that a majority of the cases are mostly mild and that we don’t have anything to worry about, but you can’t ignore the fact that there are so many people who are more vulnerable than others. They include individuals with pre-existing conditions as well as the elderly. As for the pregnant women, recent studies have indicated that their conditions are pretty much like the rest of us, with the headache being if the mother can infect the fetus with the virus.
According to a study that was released on April 6th in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, which involved 43 pregnant women who had contracted the virus, it was concluded that the severity of the condition in those expectant mothers is no different from other adults. The main risk with pregnant women when it comes to the virus is infecting the fetus. To date, research has indicated that the mom to baby transmission occurs during delivery, where child will get the virus from contact with the individual who is already infected.
Precautions to take
What Gigi and all the other pregnant women ought to do is to ensure that they follow all the guidelines given by the government so as to protect themselves from getting infected with the virus. They should also maintain the highest level of hygiene where they are – be it at work or at home. And if they don’t have to go to work, they should stay home as that will limit their exposure to the virus. And if they have to go out, let them wear a KN95 face mask as it will protect them from droplets, probably from an infected person. And that will protect their child from ever catching the virus.
So, let all of us, not just the pregnant women, heed to the government and all other relevant agencies directives and advice, and let’s stop the spread of coronavirus. We all have a part to play.
