Owning a yard is a bittersweet thing, especially if you own a large yard. Family spend their leisure time and kids scamper around the yard. When it comes to maintaining, however, it is quite overwhelming and exhausting. Choosing the right garden tools can save you a lot of trouble.
Basically, there are two common types of trimmers in the market, the gas trimmer and electric trimmer. Many people find it hard to choose from these two types with different models. I’m going to introduce the differences between them and analyze the pros and cons.
Equipped with a gasoline-fueled engine, the gas trimmer has to be filled with the mixture of gas and oil. You can start it by pulling a cord. As to the electric grass trimmer, obviously it is powered by electricity. Some of them have to plugged in to an extension cord. While others attach to a rechargeable battery for providing power. If you have a large yard, a trimmer with long extension cord is not your best choice. It is hard for you to handle as the trimming goes on.
As to the size and weight, there is no much difference of size between them. But the weight varies in different models. It is estimated that the weight of gas and electric trimmers is about 10 to 23 pounds. But we didn’t take the weight of fuel tank into consideration. This is just the weight of the trimmer only. When the fuel tank is full, it adds about ten ounces of weight. So the gas trimmer is heavier.
The motor of the gas trimmer needs routine maintenance to keep it functioning. Besides, it makes louder noise when it is working. The electric trimmer does better in these aspects. However, the gas trimmer has more house-power. It allows you to do more trimming if you have a large yard.
It is hard to tell which is better. It really comes down to how much trimming you need to do. The gas trimmer may be suitable for my yard. But the electric trimmer may meet all of your demand. You have to compare the pros and cons and then make your own decision.
